Housebuilder Charges Ahead With EV Installation

An independent Yorkshire based housebuilder has charged ahead with the installation of EV charging points on its homes and at its company headquarters in Doncaster and it chose Webasto as its charging partner.

Project overview

Albemarle Homes, has installed charging units at each of its 10, four bedroom homes at a small development in Blyth, North Nottinghamshire to meet with planning requirements and, having discovered the quality of Webasto products and the merits of installing them, intends to make them an optional item at all of its future developments. The planning conditions required each home to be fully equipped to deal with the ever-growing number of electric vehicles on the roads and therefore the installation of EV charging units as opposed to the provision of access to a 3 pin plug was essential. The units have now ensured that the homeowners and future home owners are properly equipped to meet their changing needs for car ownership and travel.

It was also important to Albemarle that the quality of charger installed reflected the same exemplary standards of build. That is why the developer turned to Webasto.

Solution

In order to provide a safer and faster charge and for customers to reap the maximum benefits now and into the future the EV units installed at the Blyth development were the Webasto 'Pure'.

The Webasto Pure is the original solution and offers an adjustable charging capacity from 3.7kW to 22kW. It has a 4.5m permanently connected charging cable with charger coupler type 2 and integrated cable suspension. This solution gives charging potential of up to ten times faster when compared with a standard domestic socket. From a safety angle, you can rest assured that it's all under control too as it has its own fuse protection. It has also received the Plus X Award for quality, design and ease of use.

Webasto was selected  over other manufacturers due to its German engineering credentials, reliability and proven, future proofed technology.  Currently 11 units have been installed – 10 Pure at the Blyth development and a Webasto Live, at a customer's request, at an alternative development. Other Albemarle Homes house buyers will have the option to have an EV charger installed at their property, as the developer has included Webasto chargers on its optional extras list for its next development of 400 homes.

What the customer said

Darryl Barker, Managing Director of Albemarle Homes commented: "It's important for the construction industry in both the domestic and commercial sectors to recognise the greater market share of EV's and the charging requirements that this brings."

"We had already installed points at our new offices to accommodate staff members that had switched to EV's and  and coupled with the planning regulations it gave rise to thoughts about how we could future proof our homes for our buyers and add value to their properties. Furthermore, it is our intention to move more of our company vehicles to electric as they are replaced and they will join the three that we currently have."

"We would highly recommend Webasto for the quality of their products, the ability to choose different models and their service. These different EV options now form part of the choices that we offer to our customers going forward at all our forthcoming sites."
